Thursday, September 3: We set off fairly early this morning and made just a few photo stops on our way to Glacier Point.

We spotted a little black bear cub rambling by and watched him climb a small tree for his morning breakfast.

The 30 mile trip up to Glacier Point passed through a very long tunnel and then around many sharp steep curves to an elevation of 7214 ft. The view from there was spectacular! We had an almost strait shot view of Half Dome and many of the other mountains surrounding Yosemite Valley.

We found a perfect coffee spot and discovered we had good cell reception so made a few calls to catch up on news from home.

Jim tried to ditch me there but I clawed my way back up the cliff!

We could see Vernal Falls and Nevada Falls in the distance.

Once to the top of the point we could see down in the valley to some of the spots we had visited the day before and the general area of our campground.

Later on we visited the Ahwahnee Lodge that we could see from Glacier Point.

Our next destination was Wawona where we walked through the Pioneer Yosemite History Center. The most interesting spot there was the Blacksmith Shop. We chatted for quite awhile with the family that was blacksmithing. We ended up purchasing a heart shaped horse shoe that we watched the son shape on the anvil.

  1. See? With a clever photographer even the most vertigo-inclined can get that cliffside pic! No need to risk your life ;-)
