Thursday, August 13: We met Ron and Linda Overbeek for breakfast at 8:00 AM at the Swiftcurrent restaurant. It was so good to catch up with them. We have been friends for many years but don't see them as often these days since they left Whitneyville Church and went back to Peace Church.
We left there about 10:00 AM and checked at the Ranger Station for what would make a good hike for the morning. We decided to begin the hike around Swiftcurrent Lake and see how far we wanted to go. We ended up hiking around the whole lake - about 2.5 miles. It was a good choice - mostly shaded and fairly flat with several bridges to cross and many paths down to the water giving us spectacular views of the lake and surrounding mountains. We stopped in at the Many Glacier Lodge again for a time to sit on the back deck and enjoy the view from there.
We finished the hike at the picnic area where the trail originated at 1:30 and ate our lunch there.
We headed back to St. Mary with a stop at the Visitor Center but once again we could not connect with their wifi so connecting with home base would have to wait until Friday morning.
Back at the camper we found some shade and a breeze to make the heat tolerable for a time of rest and then began the transition to traveling with the motor home once again. We had to wait until 5:00 for generator use (campground rules) to cool off the camper and recharge batteries for one more night of no electric.
We made one more trip to St. Mary village to check out some more moose tracks at one of Jim’s favorite places …
