We started off on our great adventure on Sunday, August 2, 2015 just before 3:00 in the afternoon. Jim had to put to use his best motor home driving skills right at the start because of strong gusting winds.

Usually I check weather forecasts before we leave on a trip but with church in the morning and last minute packing I did not. As we approached Cadillac the winds were very strong and the sky was very menacing up ahead. Then as we turned west on M-55 we ran into heavy rain that was obviously the south edge of a strong storm system. We decided to stop in Lake City and get supper, taking our time so as to hopefully miss the worst of the storm. About an hour later the weather had calmed down and we headed north again. As we were approaching Grayling on I-75 and just had passed the Business-75 exit we noticed traffic slowing down and several people suddenly taking the cross over to turn back south. We just missed the opportunity to do that and soon traffic was almost at a stand still. Jim checked his CB and heard truckers relaying that the problem was downed power lines over the freeway and that I-75 was closed in both directions for a stretch. We ended up being routed through a cross over and returning south to the Business-75 exit through Grayling. Driving through Grayling we could see the evidence that they had had some pretty nasty weather there and we were glad we had not come through there an hour earlier. We ended up with another hour long delay so at that point we decided to wait until morning to cross the Mackinaw Bridge and to stay that night at the Mackinaw Mill Creek campground. We pulled in after dark, thankful that it is an easy process to set up the motor home. Already day one it was very clear that our prayers for God’s hand of protection were being heard.
