We were able to get on the road before 9:00 and crossed into Wisconsin at 9:14 AM. We had driven 609 miles just to get out of Michigan! We stopped for a coffee break in Ashland, Wisconsin. I put some cinnamon rolls in the oven so we could have them warm for our coffee break. The city park, right on the Chequamegon Bay of Lake Superior, was a fantastic setting for our break.
About an hour later we reached the west end of Wisconsin and then drove through Duluth, Minnesota. We took the exit that said to “Grand Rapids” but didn’t actually go through Grand Rapids MN (just a little north of our route)
We saw some huge ships anchored in the bay at Duluth and we were wishing we had the GoPro set up when we drove over a very high bridge there. Soon after we crossed the Mississippi River (which is not too impressive in Northern Minnesota.) We discovered that Northern Minnesota resembles Northern Michigan very much.
We made it just about all the way across Minnesota and arrived at Buffalo River State Park for the night. We took a hike to see the Buffalo River not far from our campsite.
